Minty Fresh Finances
It is called Mint.com. "Mint immediately pulls in your balances, purchases, stock trades, etc. to give you a complete picture of your finances. Mint connects securely with more than 7,000 US financial institutions, saving you hours of tedious data entry." So you save time and hassle while they work for you, sending you reminders of when bills are due or even help you get a lower interest rate on your credit card.
If you are a little skeptical about privacy (as I was) here is some information to put you at ease:
Privacy Policy. This company has also won recognition and multiple awards, including top honors from Money, PC and PCWorld magazines, Time magazine’s Top 50 Websites, two Webby Awards and an American Business Award.
Versailles- The Cuban Gem
You might have passed this restaurant many times, not even glancing twice at it. But if you were to pass by in the evening you might also see lines out the door. This Cuban gem now has five locations across LA, there is one in West LA, Culver City, Encino, Manhattan Beach, and Universal Citywalk.
When you walk into the crowded restaurant you are consumed by the smells of their famous garlic sauce. The simply decorated, unselfconscious dining room is full of pictures of Cuba and waiters running around. *Warning: don't plan on going out after dinner without showering and brushing your teeth first.*
Most dishes are served with rice, black beans and fried plantains. Make sure you get fried plantains with your meal because they are AMAZING. The most popular dish on the menu is their roast chicken with the garlic and onion sauce (number 7 on the menu). I prefer 7a which is a grilled chicken version of the same thing. Portion sizes are huge! Enough to split with someone- and the prices are very reasonable. If you've never tried yucca I recommend trying the fried yucca- they might even be better than french fries.

More restaurant week! NYC style
There are only two prices, (unlike LA's version) lunch is $24.07 (oddly) and dinner is $35.00. New York City restaurant week is from January 18th-23rd and January 25-30th.

Spring 09 Trends Part 1
While Spring is still a couple months away- here are 2 trends to get you started.

LACMA exhibition: Vanity Fair Portraits

One of my favorite photographs in the exhibit is the one above. Although it was taken in the 20's I feel like it is so timeless and classic. Plus I've never seen Joan Crawford look relaxed and not severe.
The Vanity Fair portrait exhibit is at LACMA right now- through March 1st. So you still have plenty of time to see it! The photographs run from 1918 to 2008. When you see them all together it is a chance to see how things have changed in terms of photography, celebrity, and history. All of the early photographs had authors and political figures as their covers. By the time we get into the 30's-40's we see the change to actors and celebrities.

The photographers represented include Cecil Beaton, Harry Benson, Julian Broad, Imogen Cunningham, Annie Leibovitz, Man Ray, Mary Ellen Mark, Steven Meisel, Helmut Newton, Herb Ritts, Edward Steichen, Mario Testino, and Bruce Weber. All in all the exhibit was very interesting and enjoyable. Definitely a Culturista recommendation. Los Angeles is actually the only stop in the U.S.--after March 1st it continues on its international tour.

Golden Globes 2009
The Golden Globes were last night at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles--- and the actors came out in their finest attire. They even took fashion risks--most of which did not pan out so well.
Here are the BEST dressed:
Anne Hathaway looking gorgeous in her navy strapless gown. Unfortunately for her the leak on the Golden Globe website which listed her as the best actress winner turned out to be a mistake. Kate Winslet ended up taking home the golden globe.
Eva Longoria showed up in this full length red strapless gown, train included. It looks great on her, color, fit, silhouette. Not to mention the mermaid silhouette would be my first choice for a fancy event- it just looks the most festive.
Kate Winslet looks elegant is this satin black strapless gown. Perfect for the double golden globe winner.
This is not my favorite of the best dressed but you have to applaud Angelina for just looking so effortless and relaxed. The color and fabric are gorgeous- and she was the only one to wear a drop waist shape on the carpet.
I love this dress on Oliva Wilde. The color and style is so pretty-- she looks like a princess. There were two trends with jewelry at the awars--bare neck and aztek looking necklaces. The bare neck was a good choice for Olivia.
Rachel Evan Wood showed up looking very chic and stylish in this risky black gown. The tiers give it a little something extra without looking too fussy and the neck line is flattering.
The Worst:
Interesting choice for Marissa Tomei. I applaud her for taking a risk- but this just ended up looking too fussy and not current. Not to mention not very flattering.
There is that aztek necklace trend--which doesnt look bad. I also like Eva Mendez's choice in a white dress to offset her tan skin. The problem is that gigantic mass of fabric at her waist and the fact that the bust doesn't fit her right at all. Overall a miss for me.
Sad to do this to Jenna Fisher--but this is color and floral print ruins the dress completely. Instead of a great silhouette all I see is the dowdy looking fabric.
Way to fussy. Her poofy ponytail, also not a good choice. This just doesnt look that well made.
Terrible dusty rose color. The bottom half is just shapless and unflattering. Not to mention Cameron Diaz's hair looks like she hasn't kept up her highlights in a year (but not in the style of Giselle Bunchen where it actually works for her).
I dont even know what to say about this. Heidi, I thought you had good taste?
Another risk taker which did not pan out. The hair, the wayyyyy too fussy silhouette. The wierd sheerness of the top. Terrible. Renee Zelwegger looks like shes Edwardian dress--not quite pertinent in 2009.
