Team Edward or Team Jacob??

If you are a fan of the Twilight series you are either Team Jacob or Team Edward.  Robert Pattinson (rumored boyfriend of other Twilight star Kristen Stewart) and Taylor Lautner (rumoured boyfriend to Taylor Swift)  star as the Vampire Edward and Werewolf Jacob, respectively. 'New Moon' made almost 150 Million in it's opening weekend...which is just insane! Here are these cute Entertainment Weekly covers for the two main Twilight hotties.  So which are you Team Edward or Jacob??? Or are you sick of the Twilight craze?

Mad Men Costume Obsessed

The series 'Mad Men' on AMC, set in 1960s New York, follows the lives of the ruthlessly competitive men and women of Madison Avenue advertising.  While I love the show in general, it is the costumes that draw my attention.

Betty and Don Draper, played by January Jones and Jon Hamm

In an interview with Glamour Magazine, 'Mad Men' costume designer Janie Bryant gives her advice on how to dress like the Mad Men stars without looking like you are wearing a costume:

"You know what’s really fun, is to get a great vintage blouse of the period, with some pin tucks or ruffles, and wear them with skinny jeans. I also love twinsets, which are just so iconic for the period, and a pencil skirt is perfect, or also finding a great shirtwaist dress. Definitely if you buy something, a piece from the period, I always say mix it with very contemporary pieces, whether it be a modern shoe or skinny jeans or high waisted trouser jeans. I’m a strong believer in mixing a lot of pieces." -Janie Bryant

Janie Bryant explains her inspiration for Betty Draper:
"My grandmother. My grandmother, her name was Etoille Estelle Lillard, so she was "Double Star Lillard," which I loved. She was from the South where they couldn't really pronounce her name, so they always called her “Et-oh-lee” and she was really part of that society. My grandmother, she was an amazing amazing designer and seamstress herself. And she had an apron for every event that matched every dress--she had cocktail aprons and everyday aprons and she designed and built her own clothes and she was just such a lady. And also I would have to say Grace Kelly for Betty Draper as well. Those are really my two main inspirations."

Joan Holloway played by Christina Hendrix

Janie also explains her inspiration for Joan's character:
"With Joan, I just see her as such a sassy gal. She just tells it like it is, or rather tells it how she sees it, and that really inspired me to use a lot of strong colors for her in her palette. They're so indicative of the period anyway, so it’s been fun to use mustards and moss greens and the brighter jewel tones. And the great thing about Mad Men is, it’s not just Joan that has this beautiful hourglass figure, there’s every single body type represented on that show. It’s not like there’s just one image of beauty. There are all different body shapes and sizes. It’s about embracing your uniqueness instead of self-criticizing."

This is one fabulously free event the Culturistas do not want to miss. David Chang will be signing and discussing his book and restaurant "Momofuko." [Photo Credit: Phil Holland]

The Lucent Dossier Experience is exactly what it sounds like: an experience.  And it is an experience that should not be missed by any Angelino.  Known for their immersive, experiential environments, Lucent Dossier combines otherworldly circus-style spectacle with tantalizing performances involving synchronized dancers, live art, contortionists, in a theatrical fantasy set within an industrial club space.

'What Lucent does best is create wonderlands for our guests to lose themselves in, so let us be your guide into a fantastical realm where brilliance and insanity fuse together in an exotic kind of ecstatic bliss.'  -

Dermalogica Spa Giveaway!!

1022 Montana Ave
Santa Monica, CA 90403
(310) 260-8682

The Dermalogica Spa is nestled on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica.  It's in one of the cutest areas of LA, full of shops and restaurants. And when I realized it was sitting right next door to Father's Office - I liked it immediately.  When you walk inside, you enter an all white concept space full of  professional products and spa equipment.

Before you get a facial at Dermalogica, a skin therapist will take an initial look at your skin, which they call "Face Mapping" and very quickly come together with the perfect plan of action.  The staff is super friendly and very helpful at improving your skin quality.  They will tell you what products they suggest you use without being pushy.  And I must say, after using their moisturizer and face wash for the past week I do notice a difference in my skin. Their facials are an hour long and cost $85 which is quite reasonable considering other Spa's prices.

But for those of us that don't want to spend the money or the time at the spa- Dermalogica also has an awesome treatment called a 'Microzone.'  They have 7 different Microzone treatments which last 20 minutes and cost 25 dollars.  I had the 'flash exfoliation/resurface, smooth and brighten' microzone.  Afterwords my skin felt heavenly! It was such a great treat for my skin during the fall/winter.  And since it was such an awesome experience we want our readers to enjoy it as well!

Win a FREE microZone® treatment at Dermalogica on Montana in Santa Monica! Bothersome breakout? Tired eyes? Dull skin? This quick skin fix gets you in, gets skin repaired and gets you out the door in a snap!  Expert skin therapists and amazing products will provide the solution on the spot in just 20 minutes with treatments like flash exfoliation (great for shaping up before events), extractions and even eye revitalization (perfect after long travels). That means no changing out of your clothes, no fuss and big results!  We’ll even show you step-by-step how to identify your concerns and treat them effectively at home to maintain results.

***If you don't happen to win, stop by Dermalogica on Montana any time for a FREE Face Mapping®, which includes diagnosis, treatment, recovery and prevention. A licensed Dermalogica skin therapist analyzes your skin from forehead to collarbone, identifying potential problems, unique needs, and how to treat them professionally.

This giveaway has now ended. Congratulations Javishay and J. Christine Huh!

We are going to have TWO winners!! To enter the contest: please leave a comment on this post telling us how you heard about the Culturistas

Make sure to add a valid email address in your comment so we can contact you if you're the winner. Comments must be posted by 6 pm PST on Friday November 13th to be eligible to win. The winner will be announced on November 14th. Two lucky winner will be chosen at random. Open to readers in the LA area. Good luck!!

This minuscule and unassuming stand is Manhattan's Mecca for true taco lovers! This shack is not glamorous but has its own charm and some serious flavor. Their 10 item menu has tacos, nachos, and tortilla soup. There are no burritos and the most expensive item on the menu is $7. The decor is somewhat kitschy and the vibe exudes underground coolness. The Culturistas recommend the $4 Grilled Sole taco with Chipotle coleslaw. This little bite of heaven will leave you hungry wanting more.

Look of the Week: Ashley Oslen

Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen cruised around NYC this past week to give out cupcakes and sell merchandise from their new line for JC Penny, "Olsenboye." The Olsen's also have two other, more expensive, lines: "Elizabeth and James" and "The Row."  Beginning Nov. 6, Olsenboye will be available on!

Ashley looked ever so stylish in her dark skinny jeans, strappy heels, gorgeous coat and Chanel sunglasses. We absolutely LOVE her look!
